I had almost no breast volume to begin with, and my ribcage protrudes slightly, so in clothes my upper-body line looked flat while my sternum and upper stomach stood out — a constant stress.

Surgery on Friday, May 1 at 10:30 (about 40 minutes).

When I woke in the recovery room, what felt hardest was not the chest pain I had braced for, but my upper body trembling as my temperature came back while the anesthesia wore off.

I left around 1 pm, feeling well enough that I honestly thought, I could probably take public transport home?

From about 1:35, though, a firm, heavy tightening feeling set in along with some gradually rising pain.

Pain was my biggest worry beforehand, but personally it was milder than I expected. Rather than terrible pain, it felt more like my chest had been set in cement — hard, heavy, packed full. Enough that I wondered, is this what they call being one of the lucky comfortable cases? haha.

Personally, the engorgement I went through after childbirth was far harder than this post-op pain. My breasts never even got that large back then, yet the engorgement pain was uniquely awful — maybe that memory, or the slight size gain from childbirth, is why this time the pain felt manageable.

On the first night, sleeping flat on my back was easier than expected — it was my lower back, not my chest, that bothered me, and I woke about twice.

The day after surgery I felt steady enough to go to a simple dental appointment.

Early on, the compression band plus gauze made my upper body look so bulky that it threw me off, but after removing the gauze the next day it looked far more natural, and even in my usual uniform it was barely noticeable.

Right after surgery they looked smaller than I expected, which worried me a little, but it is only week one — the upper fullness and firmness remain, and I remind myself this is part of the settling process.

I had quite a bit of purple bruising along the fold incision. Reading reviews where others had none made me nervous, but it is fading steadily, and I have a progress check at the clinic today.

I worried endlessly, but the recovery has been steadier than expected, and so far I am happy with the result.
